Over the last year, Matt Jardine has developed a number of designs using the technique of chamfers to create shape and shadows in his furniture.
This pair of Oak bedside tables are an example of this style. They were commissioned as part of a bedroom suite also consisting of bed, gentlemans wardrobe and a wall-hung mirror. The strong design uses a black line edge to create the illusion of curves and movement. The drawers open using carved out finger pulls which are then scorched and then stained black to create the elegant shape which runs down the front of the piece.
The Arum Lily Cabinet has almost become a signature piece for MJ Cabinet Makers. The elegant shape of the hand carved Lily handles in Ash is offset by the contrasting figured Elm panels. This versatile piece contains 5 shelves, which are all adjustable allowing for the storage of up to 350 CDs.
The Square Coffee Table is a fabulous functional piece of furniture for any living room. All four sections lift up to reveal a large storage space that provides a hide away for magzines, books, DVD's and even toys. This practical table can be made in different woods, stained different colours and can be made in different sizes to suit the customer.
This elegant Bureau was made from Cumrian Oak with burr Oak veneered drawer fronts and panels with Walnut knobs and interior.
Designed in 2000 by Matt Jardine, the Elterwater Dresser combines the common attributes of Oak and Slate. Both local materials are hardwearing and versatile and have been married together to create this timeless piece of furniture, which would compliment both a traditional or contemporary interior.
As a designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh has inspired many, and when a client approched MJ Cabinet Makers to make a large Cabinet using bespoke stained glass to compliment an exisiting Mackintosh dining suite, this magnificent piece was designed.
Matt Jardine used design details from the pieces of furniture at Hill house to inspire the making of this piece. It was made from Cumbrian Oak and then stained to match the dining suite. The stunning handmade stained glass panels were made by The Art Partnership.
This unique Sideboard was commissioned as part of a pair. It was made from Cherry with Spalted Beech panels and Walnut detail. The spalting in the Beech timber used is caused by a fungus that grows once the tree has been felled. As can been seen, this natural process can be used to great effect and becomes the star feature in this understated Sideboard.
