about
“My love for wood began early in my childhood when I used to whittle sticks. I always dreamed of one day designing and making furniture. I left school at the age of sixteen, completed a joinery apprenticeship and then worked for a local Cabinetmaker. In April 2000, I took the first step to fulfilling my dream, and began working on my own when I established MJ Cabinetmakers.
I now employ a team including full time makers, apprentices and finishers. We now work from a purpose built workshop and adjacent showroom at Braithwaite, near Keswick, which has a magnificent view of Skiddaw.
The simple principle of strong design and quality in making has built our reputation over the years. A piece of furniture should be beautiful as well as functional. This is always the priority when beginning a new piece.”

My coffee table is so exactly what I wanted – the right length, the right height and oh so beautiful. Even after I had closed the lounge door tonight, I peeped in to have another look. I am thrilled, delighted and oh so thankful to own such a work of art. What a special gift you have Matt.
